Dr. Shannon Roberts
Originally from Vista, California, Dr. Shannon Roberts is a nationally known composer, arranger, conductor, author, clinician, and music educator. He is currently the Director of Music at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the former Director of Bands at Weber State University where he was the director for the Marching & Pep Bands, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphonic Bands. He is a regular guest conductor for the New American Philharmonic Orchestra. He also performs at the Jazz at the Station series and with many professional musical groups in Utah.
He has published several jazz band pieces, and in April of 2022, premiered his Symphony No.1-Trilogy for symphony Orchestra with the New American Symphony Orchestra. He is a prolific composer of band, jazz band and orchestral music.
Dr. Roberts holds Ph.D. and Master of Music degrees in music composition from the University of Utah; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the United States International University in San Diego, California; and an Associate of Arts Degree in Applied Arts from San Diego Mesa College. Before moving to Utah to pursue doctoral studies, Dr. Roberts taught high school and community college at several Southern California schools. He was Staff Arranger, Drum Major, and Euphonium soloist with the United States Navy Band in San Diego and a graduate of the United States Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia.
As a brass specialist on trombone, euphonium, trumpet, and tuba; he has played for many professional shows and national artists like: Tad Calcara’s New Deal Swing Orchestra, Disney’s Aladdin & Little Mermaid, Hairspray, The Wayne Newton Band, Eddie Daniels, Frank Sinatra Jr., Dee Daniels, Spanky Wilson, Jeff Hamilton, Maureen McGovern, and the Manhattan Transfer, The Great Basin St. Band, and the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra. He also plays jazz flute and bass.
