Dr. Shannon Roberts, originally from Vista, California, is a nationally known composer, arranger, conductor, author, clinician and music educator. He is currently the Director of the Weber State University Marching and Pep Bands, Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band. He also teaches music theory and the history of jazz and is the coordinator for the Winds and Percussion Master Classes. He is principle trombonist with the "O" City Big Band. He performs regularly at the "Jazz at the Station" series. He is a member of CBDNA, MENC, UMEA, the Music Alliance and Phi Kappa Phi.
Dr. Roberts holds Ph.D. and Master of Music degrees in music composition from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the United States International University in San Diego, California, an Associate of Arts degree in Applied Arts from San Diego Mesa College and is a graduate of the United States Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia.
He is the former Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Utah and was Director of "Jazz Ensemble One" for ten years. Before moving to Utah to pursue doctoral studies, Dr. Roberts was the Musical Director for Sea World of San Diego. He taught high school and community college at several Southern California schools, was Staff Arranger, Drum Major and Euphonium Soloist with the United States Navy Band in San Diego and played euphonium for the Disneyland Circus Band.
